Holy
Family Steel Drum Orchestra
and Children's Chorus from Antigua
Minister at Holy Angels
August
29, 2010, was a special blessing for Holy Angels family and visitors,
as we were visited by a full Steel Drum Orchestra and Children's
Chorus from Holy Family Parish in Antigua, in the eastern Leeward
Islands of the Caribbean. The music ministry was created by the
Catholic Archbishop of Antigua to provide liturgical music for
the parish. The ministry has grown to include sacred and secular
music beyond the island nation, including this tour in the US.
We are fortunate that our own Mr. Michael Joseph, Campus Director
of Holy Angels School, has family ties to Holy Family's Parish
and music ministry, and was able to bring the orchestra and chorus
to Indianapolis and Holy Angels after they appeared in Chicago,
Illinois and at our sister parish, St. Rita's in Indianapolis.
The Sunday afternoon
program included a program of sacred music themed to the 7 Sacraments
and the Sacramentals of the Church, concluding with a breathtaking
rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus. As an encore, the orchestra
performed several more traditional popular songs laced with the
themes of the Caribbean. We are grateful for this beautiful gift
of song and spirituality, and hope our friends from Holy Family
parish will return again.
